Sterreberg Courtrai clay pantiles feature a curved pan with interlocking head and side joints, creating a distinctive flowing roof profile. Our reclaimed tiles have a smooth terracotta finish, with natural weathering that adds character and can help blend repairs into existing roofs.
They were manufactured by Tuileries de Sterreberg, a Belgian roof-tile factory established in 1907 at Aalbeke, near Kortrijk, also known as Courtrai. The factory formed part of the region’s prominent clay tile-making industry, whose products were exported worldwide.
Sterreberg tiles are rumoured to have been imported into Britain to help meet roofing-material shortages between the World Wars or during post-war rebuilding, although this explanation has not been historically verified.
When selecting replacements, compare the tile markings, dimensions and interlocking profile with an original sample, as the Sterreberg name appears on different tile designs.
