Courtrai tiles were produced in France and are unmistakable owing to their traditional European design. These tiles are lightweight and designed with a headlock and sidelock and are a popular tile used for buildings with minimal rafter support. Glass variants were used before the introduction of skylights and so a popular choice for pigeon lofts and aviaries. Available in a standard smooth terracotta finish, but can also be glazed to produce a variety of colours. Courtrai tiles are commonly found in London, most notably: Sidcup, Bexleyheath, Dartford, Welling and Dagenham.
