Clay Double Roman roof tiles have a distinctive twin-roll profile, creating the flowing appearance associated with many traditional roofs. Our reclaimed examples feature rolls that taper towards the top, a cut-out at the upper-left shoulder and a smooth finish, in terracotta orange or dark brown.

The design is closely associated with Bridgwater in Somerset, an important centre of brick and tile manufacture during the 19th century. Leading producers included Colthurst, Symons & Co, established in 1857, whose Double Roman tile was developed by William Symons. Browne & Co also manufactured the design, and Bridgwater tiles were exported overseas, including to northern France.

Reclaimed examples can help preserve the character of an existing roof, although dimensions and profiles should be checked carefully, as tiles from different makers can vary.
